Pumpkin Spice Showdown

It’s fall time, which means women around the world are putting on their leggings, UGG’s, oversized sweaters and cozy flannel shirts. They are flocking to Starbucks by the thousands for their annual Pumpkin Spice Latte.

I like many others am a huge sucker for Pumpkin season. Pumpkin spice muffins, pumpkin spice cookies, pumpkin pies… And the quintessential Pumpkin Spice Latte.

While Starbucks may have the most famous Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) , I decided to have a little showdown. I went to 3 places to try their version of the PSL. Starbucks, Tim Hortons and Second Cup. Yes my friends, I sacrificed myself so you can decide which PSL you’ll like best. It’s hard to be a food blogger.

Starbucks: I’ve had many PSL’s from Starbucks and have loved it every time. I look forward to September every year. This year was no different, and I was not disappointed. I like to describe the Starbucks PSL as a hug in a cup. There are hints of Cinnamon and Nutmeg and the espresso shines through just enough to remind you that you are still getting a boost of caffeine. VERDICT: gorgeous balance of pumpkin spice and espresso. A true fall classic.

Tim Hortons: Oh Timmies, I had hope. I really had hope. If I didn’t know that I ordered a Pumpkin Spice Latte, I would have had no idea it was a Pumpkin Spice Latte. The espresso was SO overpowering. Only when I got to the bottom of the drink did I note a small amount of pumpkin spice but even then, it was far too sweet. VERDICT: too much espresso (and not great espresso) and where is the Pumpkin Spice??? 10/10 would not recommend.

Second Cup: The Second Cup PSL was… unoffensive. The balance of espresso and pumpkin spice was there, but that being said, the pumpkin spice flavoring was just ok; it did not have quite enough cinnamon or nutmeg for my taste. VERDICT: If you are looking for more espresso in a latte than flavoring, this is for you.

As you may have guessed, my personal favorite was none other than the Starbuck’s PSL. I’ll admit it, I’m a #BasicBitch. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to drown myself in PSL’s cozied up in my UGG’s, leggings and flannel.
